Everyone needs a space to be calm, to relax, to just breathe.
At LEADPrep our students identified a need for a space to practice being calm. They put their heads together and identified a space that would work.
“Calm mind brings inner strength and self-confidence, so that’s very important for good health.” Dalai Lama
Then a LEADPrep family worked with the student leader to make the Calm Cave happen for our school.
Max, with his parents Mary and Todd, worked together to create a space for students to spend time in when things get too BIG.
Students practice self-regulation (with daily check-ins and reflections). They are encouraged to take this self-awareness and advocate for what they need. Often a calm break or sprint around the school is the request.
“Life is ten percent what you experience and ninety percent how you respond to it.” Dorothy M. Neddermeyer
When a student needs to hit the reset button there is a special place now for them to recharge, regroup, and regain their calm.
The Calm Cave contains supplies for coloring, a book of jokes, and some music. Floor pillows and a lamp complete the mood. It has been created as a beautiful and relaxing space.
It is helping our students practice life skills they will use for the rest of their lives!
