Everyone at LEADPrep knows about STEM.
- Science
- Technology
- Engineering
- Math
Interweaving these subjects is central to many projects at our school, and prepares our students for life beyond our walls.
But STEM isn’t always enough. There is a small but mighty group of people add a little something to the STEM philosophy.
It is called STEAM.
- Science
- Technology
- Engineering
- Art + Design
- Math
So we go from STEM to STEAM!
“Apple is successful because it’s not just technology—it’s at the intersection of design and technology. Innovation needs the arts education component to truly flourish,” says John Maeda, president of Rhode Island School of Design.
At a school in Brooklyn students taking a photography class have to first BUILD their own cameras. This blending of science and the arts leads to deeper understanding of the subject and to an increase in innovation.
“There’s only one away to put a camera together but there are infinite ways to take a picture and infinite ways to interpret a picture,” said Mr. James, a member of the team who originated the project. “On one hand you have logistical stuff to work out and on the other hand you have imagination.”
