LEADPrep has become a WE School! WE is a dynamic program that challenges young people to identify the local and global issues that spark their passion. WE then empowers them with the tools they need to take action.
Students learn about the root causes of serious world issues like hunger or poverty. Students then work together to plan and carry out local and global actions to improve their community or other communities.
Four Steps of WE Schools
#1 Investigate and learn
Students and teachers explore real world challenges. They look for opportunities for things they can do to make a difference. Why is this a challenge? Who does it effect? What could be done to make a difference?
#2 Create an Action Plan
Students work with teachers to narrow down the opportunities, and then to form an action plan. Then they create a service learning project to provide one local and one global action. How can WE make a difference? How can we use our strengths and our opportunities to create change?
#3 Take Action
Students and teachers put their action plan into effect. They implement their service learning project and make a difference. Who can help? What can be done? How can it be done best with the tools at our disposal?
#4 Report and Celebrate
Students present the results of their service-learning initiatives and celebrate the difference they have made. What have we done? Who has benefited? What changes did we create? What can we do next?
Part of our LEADPrep international service learning will include a trip to Nicaragua’s WE Village in March. We are challenging ourselves–and YOU–to find ways to take action and serve more this year!
