Communication skills are very important in today’s society. LEADPrep students have a great opportunity for practicing good communication in their Toastmasters group.
And the favorite part of working on the public speaking? Why, improv of course!!
Improvisation
Improvisation is one of our oldest arts. It predates writing and language, as ancient man had to tell stories by acting them out! Students enjoy this unique workshop-style experience that gives them practical experience.
Being a good communicator provides many benefits. Students work on overcoming shyness when speaking and build confidence by having fun! One part of building confidence is having a well thought out and logical presentation. Learning to organize and present ideas increases the students’ self confidence and builds leadership skills.
Gavel Club
Another important function of improv is learning to listen. It’s difficult to communicate effectively, meet new people, make friends, or develop leadership if a person is unable to listen effectively.
Improv at The Gavel Club for Youth (Toastmasters’ teen program) provides a real life opportunity to practice listening better, conquering fears, sparking creativity, gaining confidence, and discovering more about themselves.
LEADPrep’s Gavel Clubs weekly mid-day and is open to all middle and high school students. Contact LEADPrep for more information.
