We know in adolescence that our children spend a great deal of energy exploring their identities. They are becoming independent of parents and looking to peers to inform more of their decisions. As parents, we are called to stay involved and provide feedback and support…delicately.
We need to question our beliefs, being sure we address the issues that are really important to our family values. Does my daughter having purple streaks in her hair conflict with our values or just my personal preferences? Often an adult who has already “survived” parenting a teen can be a good sounding board as we redefine our parenting roles with our adolescent son or daughter.
LEADPrep also finds itself with the opportunity to define identity and how we want our space to reflect our unique school personality. In the fall, we will be able to move into the school building next to our present shared church space. This is an exciting chance to put student work on the walls, let students design “hang out” zones, and overall create a learning environment to serve our students.
To fund this major transition, we will be having a festive auction on February 5. Your attendance is a wonderful way to support LEADPrep. Our mission is to personalize middle and high school, within a learning community. Our students need to be seen and heard on their own terms.
Join our students, faculty, and parents on February 5 at Wild About Cars Garage in Kirkland. Tickets are available at http://lead-prep.bpt.me/ Please buy yours today!
