LEADPrep is blessed with teachers who value student expression and bring learning to life. In our Digital Storytelling class, this powerful learning experience is provided by Travis and Kanani—the co-founders of Cherry Street Films. Their mission: We work to support youth produced media by using the tools and technologies available to drive creative change through Digital Storytelling and Filmmaking. Our student Frankie says, “I really like how supportive Kanani and Travis are. They make filmmaking so fun and easy to get into, even if you’ve never done it before.”
This non-profit company provides students in Seattle and Kirkland with a way to tap into personal stories, passions, and creativity. They also teach the many aspects of film making, from storyboarding, to camera and mic usage, to film editing and producing. Teamwork is emphasized. This is one of our students’ favorite classes. Ryan adds, “I love how you can make your ideas come alive and see them on the screen.”
