January, a time of new beginnings. We chose a new name to start the year with focus and intention. No more explaining the “L” in L & E Academy; now we spell it out. The students chose: Leadership Preparatory Academy. “LEADPrep” for short. This year at LEADPrep will be filled with providing 7th-12th grade students the opportunity to thrive, build, and lead from their strengths.
Let’s help all teens thrive this year. The brain’s amygdala tends to obsess on worry. Here are three simple steps to overcome this:
1. Celebrate the successes of last year. Feel them. Ask your teen to consider putting them in visual format as a screensaver on her phone.
2. Visualize future successes. Acing a test. Being confident in a new social setting. The brain can’t tell visualizations from reality…so make sure we are running positive movies in our minds!
3. Feel gratitude. Start and end the day remembering what we are grateful for. Do it as a family. It’s a great source of serotonin and attracts more good things to us.
Our thoughts can become our reality; help your teen choose only the best thoughts!
