Our teens have a multitude of talents…many yet to be tapped. Summer time is a great time to explore these talents and interests. While our teens might prefer sleeping until noon and hanging out with friends or technology the rest of the time, consider these three alternatives:
Summer Camps: This is the perfect time of year for teens to try new experiences or delve more deeply into existing interests. Whether it is DigiPen or the YMCA, day trips or week-long excursions, the camp experience can create wonderful lifelong memories and uncover new skills and interests. L & E Academy offers a variety of middle and high school camps. Check our camp section for details.
Volunteer Jobs/Internships: Many companies will provide teens with opportunities to serve. If your teen is interested gaining job skills or serving others, there are many possibilities available. Seattleschild.com has a solid list for starters. The skills gained directly transfer to the workplace and look good on resumes and applications.
Paid Jobs. What teen doesn’t like to have spending money? Summer is an ideal time to mow lawns, babysit, or take on an entry-level job. Holding down a job helps teens understand the responsibility involved in life after school.
Now is the time to make summer plans…don’t let your teen miss the opportunities that summer brings!
